Ruddy Complexions

Song of Solomon 5:10 ESV

“My beloved is radiant and ruddy, distinguished among ten thousand.”

• Though some translations use the word ‘white’ instead of ‘radiant’, the Hebrew word used for radiant is defined by Strong's H6703 dictionary as: dazzling, glowing, clear, bright

• Ruddy is defined by Strong's H122 as red, ruddy (of man, horse, heifer, garment, water, lentils)

1 Samuel 16:12

“And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.”

• Though the word ‘fair’ has come to be synonymous with white, the original meaning meant beautiful. See Strong's H3303 definition: beautiful, beauty, comely, fair(-est, one), goodly, pleasant, well.

1 Samuel 17:42
